Sheboygan area surgeons and St. Nicholas Hospital have opened the Sheboygan Surgery Center at 3141 Saemann Ave. in Sheboygan.

Sheboygan Surgery Center, a multi-specialty state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center, is a new construction designed and built specifically for outpatient surgery.

“It is a state-of-the-art facility from both a building and equipment perspective,” said Sara McCallum, administrative director of the Sheboygan Surgery Center. The physicians and St. Nicholas contracted with Marshall Erdman & Associates, Inc. a firm highly recognized for its experience in designing surgery centers. Marshall Erdman & Associates has been an innovative, national leader in healthcare facility design for more than 50 years.

The Sheboygan Surgery Center is equipped with the most advanced state-of-the-art equipment such as video equipment with high definition monitors for minimally invasive surgical procedures and the Picture Archiving and Communication System. One of the best features of PACS is that it integrates the patient’s images, the radiologist’s report, and the patient’s health record, allowing multiple health providers access to the patient’s records.

As a freestanding newly constructed outpatient surgery center, the Sheboygan Surgery Center is cost-effective; charges for procedures are based on freestanding surgery center guidelines, which typically are lower than outpatient surgery procedures performed under a hospital’s charge system.

The quiet design features a comforting environment, a calm relaxing interior color palette, and natural lighting through skylights in the patient recovery area, offering patients a higher level of comfort during their recovery relieving anxiety and offering a more healing focused environment.

The Sheboygan Surgery Center physicians and Hospital partnership exhibits their commitment toward providing multi-specialty expertise in a patient focused care facility. The most common types of surgeries performed at an (ambulatory) surgery center are general surgery and orthopedic, ophthalmology, hand and foot, urology, plastic/cosmetic, gynecology, oral, and Ear, Nose and Throat surgery.

In order to participate in the Medicare program, the Sheboygan Surgery Center must meet conditions set by the federal government making sure their facility operates in a manner that ensures patient safety and quality services. The Sheboygan Surgery Center adheres to safety and quality of care standards and guidelines. The partners agreed to participate in the independent accrediting process conducted by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. Accreditation is a voluntary process through which an ambulatory health care organization is able to measure the quality of its services and performance against nationally recognized standards.

The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, also known as the Accreditation Association or AAAHC, was formed in 1979 to assist ambulatory health care organizations improve the quality of care provided to patients. Currently accrediting more than 3,800 organizations, the AAAHC is the leader in ambulatory health care accreditation.

The new Sheboygan Surgery Center embraces a number of sustainable design features as defined by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) U.S. Green Building Council Rating System and Green Guide for Healthcare (GGHC). “We feel strongly about reusing, recycling, and respecting the environment in this construction and all of our future building plans,” said McCallum.

Physician investors for the Sheboygan Surgery Center include Kevin J. Gassner, M.D., Scott T. Glaeser, M.D., and Bruce A. Van Dommelen, M.D., Sheboygan Orthopaedic Associates, SC; Gregory S.
