Marinette Marine, the ship-building division of Manitowoc Co. (MTW), has lost a $1.5 billion bid to build 34 U.S. Coast Guard patrol boats over a period of about seven years.

The contract has been awarded to Bollinger Shipyards, in Lockport., La., according to the Coast Guard.

In September, Marinette laid off about 90 union workers as the result of delays in contract awards from the Coast Guard and the U.S. Navy.

More layoffs are coming in November, Richard McCreary, Marinette Marine CEO, said this morning.
