Gov. Jim Doyle has signed a $15.98 million contract to improve 29 miles of Interstate 43 between the Sheboygan–Ozaukee county line and Wisconsin 42, and 1.5 miles of Wisconsin 23 from west of I–43 to east of Taylor Drive in Sheboygan. The project was advanced using funds provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Northeast Asphalt of Greenville is the prime contractor of the project. Construction includes bridge deck repairs, pavement repairs and resurfacing, and the upgrading of beam guard. This work will be taking place at various locations throughout the project, improving the riding surface and increasing the life of the pavement and bridge decks. Construction on the northbound lanes of I–43 is scheduled to begin Thursday, July 2 and continue through November. Work will begin on the southbound lanes next spring. The Wisconsin 23 work will take place during 2009 and 2010. The entire project is scheduled for completion by July 16, 2010.
