Two Door County organizations have applied for 50-percent matching grants from the Knowles–Nelson Stewardship Program to assist with the purchase of land in Door County. The Door County Land Trust has applied for a matching grant for purchasing 9.26 acres of land in the Town of Egg Harbor and 337 acres of land in the City of Sturgeon Bay. The Ridges Sanctuary is seeking to purchase 50 acres of land in the Town of Baileys Harbor. The Door County Land Trust will provide match to the grant award. The properties, including 740 feet of Lake Michigan frontage in Sturgeon Bay, will be left in their natural state and will be open to the public for low impact recreational activities including hunting, fishing, trapping, hiking, cross-county skiing, snowshoeing, nature study, wildlife observation and photography. The DNR has made a preliminary determination that the proposed acquisitions will not involve significant adverse environmental impacts and neither an environmental assessment nor environmental impact statement will be required for this action. Public comments on the proposed acquisitions can be sent to Vance Rayburn, Administrator, Customer and Employee Services Division, in care of Sue Kocken, Environmental Grants Specialist, (920) 662-6587, susan.kocken@wisconsin.gov. Comments must be received by Oct. 27. Trackback address for this postTrackback URL (right click and copy shortcut/link location) No feedback yetLeave a comment |
