The gun deer hunting season has seen a spike in the donation of deer to the Hunt for the Hungry program in Green Bay.

According to Lee Dudek, founder and organizer, 175 deer were donated by hunters over the opening weekend.

The season total is 400 deer, a drop from recent years.

"But we are very thankful for every deer that has come in," said Dudek, who coordinates the donations with Paul's Pantry, a Green Bay food pantry. "We are not discouraged by the count, because we know many hunters need their deer this year, or may be giving deer to friends and family in need."

"Overall, the spirit of deer donation continues strong."
