Gov. Jim Doyle signed bills Wednesday requiring people to install carbon monoxide detectors in their homes and allowing women to breastfeed in public.

The bill on carbon monoxide detectors requires the devices on all floors of single-family homes and two-unit dwellings, but does not penalize those who don’t install them. The detectors are already required in other types of housing.

The other bill would allow women to breastfeed in any public place where they are allowed to be. It was written because some nursing mothers said they had been harassed in malls and restaurants.
