The Department of Natural Resources is seeking comment on three proposed Door County land purchases that would use state Knowles–Nelson Stewardship Fund grants. The Nature Conservancy has applied for two 50-percent matching grants to assist with the purchase of two parcels totaling 40.17 acres of land in the Town of Baileys Harbor. The Nature Conservancy would match the grant award. The Door County Land Trust has applied for a 50-percent matching grant to assist with the purchase of 1.55 acres of land in the Town of Egg Harbor. The land trust also would match the grant award. Each property will be left in its natural state and will be open to the public for low impact recreational activities including fishing, hiking, cross-county skiing, snowshoeing, nature study, wildlife observation and photography, according to a DNR news release. Public comments on the proposed acquisition can be made to Vance Rayburn, Administrator, Customer and Employee Services Division, care of Sue Kocken, Environmental Grants Specialist, (920) 662-5487, susan.kocken@wisconsin.gov. Comments must be received by March 26. Trackback address for this postTrackback URL (right click and copy shortcut/link location) No feedback yetLeave a comment |
